David Anderson is the Member of Parliament for Cypress Hills - Grasslands, Saskatchewan and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resource and to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food for the Canadian Wheat Board. David has lived and farmed out of Frontier, Saskatchewan for most of his life.
David studied at the University of Regina where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He then went on to complete a Masters of Divinity at the Canadian Theological Seminary in 1990.
David was first elected to Parliament in 2000 as a Member of the Canadian Alliance Party and served in several roles since then including Saskatchewan Caucus Chairman, Alliance Agriculture and Canadian Wheat Board Critic and member for the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.
David was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-food for the Canadian Wheat Board in January 2006. The Prime Minister extended David’s portfolio on October 10, 2007, naming him Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resource. As Parliamentary Secretary, David plays a key role in assisting the Minister with parliamentary business as well as creating dialogue with the public and interest groups.

Last week the Honorable Joe Oliver ,completed a successful visit to the United States to promote our mutual interest in jobs and the economy, through the approval of the Keystone XL pipeline. The responsible development of Canada’s energy resources, including the oil sands, is critical to the Canadian economy and ongoing funding for essential social programs like health and education.
But NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair is also traveling to the U.S. to meet with American officials in Washington. But what message will he bring? Will he leave politics at the border and join the Conservative Government in supporting Canadian jobs, exports, diversified markets and the Keystone XL pipeline?




David The NDP is committed to ‘renegotiating’ NAFTA, and has opposed almost every other trade agreement. Still, with tens of thousands of Canadian jobs at stake, this would be the time for Mr. Mulcair to finally get behind Canada’s national interest?



Why is there such a huge difference between the bitumen coming out the ground of Alberta and the price of west texas crude oil? 35$ difference

The American Economy has been soft but is turning around, but there has been a glut of american oil because they themselves are pumping out more domestically. Shouldn't we be selling our bitumen  to overseas customer , to diversify in case USA goes into a recession?

let me get this staight , we need the pipelines to get access to the world market,the more access we have the more opportunity we have, the more opprotunity we have the higher the bitumen oil, ECONOMICS 101?

Should a pipeline be built across the United States through the Canadian border to carry oil from the tar sands of Alberta to refineries in Texas. We are talking about a project of the northern leg of the keystone XL pipeline that has to be approved by the state department and its fate lies with the president of the United States Barak Obama citing environmental concerns.

While we have talk about the oil pipelines and gas issues like shale, one of the issues that keep’s coming up is the whole issue surrounding oil and gas developments (exploration, development and pipelines) is consultation and communications by the industry and government with local stakeholders (landowners, aboriginals, and environmentalists).

 It seems to me and others that the industry and governments are always on the defensive and reactive rather than being proactive when it comes to communication and consultation with stakeholders regarding oil and natural gas developments."

Obvious with the "Idle no More" movement one of the key issues is "communication, even  The Green Party of Canada is encouraging Canadians to engage in an informed and helpful discourse on Indigenous Rights and fundamental Canadian values of sustainable development, peace, freedom and equality for all Canadians.

Green party sais “The Idle No More Movement is an opportunity for people in Canada to join in solidarity on key issues like the protection of water and provision of clean drinking water for all in this country. 

It is creating awareness of how Canada is exposing us to a free-for all through the Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Act (FIPA) with China. Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Act FIPA undermines sovereignty at all levels and infringes on the treaties with First Nations," said Elizabeth May, MP for Saanich—Gulf Islands and leader of the Green Party of Canada.

WASHINGTON - 53 Senetors on Wednesday urged quick approval of TransCanada's controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline, giving pressure on President Barack Obama just days after he promised in his inaugural address to climate change.A letter signed by 53 senators said Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman's approval of a revised route through his state puts the long-delayed project squarely in the president's hands.



"We urge you to choose jobs, economic development and American energy security," the letter said, adding that the pipeline "has gone through the most exhaustive environmental scrutiny of any pipeline" in U.S. history.

"There is no reason to deny or further delay this long-studied project," said the letter, which was initiated by Senators John Hoeven (R-N.D.) and Max Baucus (D-Mont.) and signed by 44 Republicans and nine Democrats. Another Democrat, Jon Tester of Montana, supports the pipeline but did not sign the letter.

TransCanada is seeking approval by the Amercians for a $5.3-billion pipeline that would carry crude from Alberta's oilsands and U.S. shale formations to Steele City, Nebreska. That pipeline would link up with another $2.3-billion conduit line to Texas refineries, which is 40 per cent complete. That segment does not require a U.S. federal permit.

The two projects were originally part of one big pipeline proposal that the Obama administration rejected last year. TransCanada opted to cut it up into two projects while the Nebraska issues were sorted out.

John Kerry and his wife have agreed to divest holdings in a Canadian oil company, as well as dozens of other investments, in an effort to avoid conflicts of interest as the Massachusetts senator prepares to become America’s next secretary of state.

The Canadian Press reported last week that Kerry had as much as US$750,000 invested in Suncor, a Calgary-based oil company whose CEO has urged the Obama administration to greenlight TransCanada’s Keystone XL pipeline.


“I am committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct for government officials,” Kerry wrote in the agreement with the State Department’s ethics office.

“I will not participate personally and substantially in any particular matter that has a direct and predictable effect on my financial interests or those of any person whose interests are imputed to me, unless I first obtain a written waiver.”

Environmentalists had called on Kerry last week to divest of all the Canadian oil company’s holdings.

John Bennett executive director of the Sierra Club Canada, the country’s largest national grassroots environmental organization, says the club’s board will consider lifting its prohibition on civil disobedience later this month.

OTTAWA —
One of Canada’s largest environmentalist organizers will decide later this month whether to drop its prohibition against civil disobedience — and if the Sierra Club of Canada takes that step the first target will be proposed oilsands pipelines to the B.C. coast.
Spokesman John Bennett, noting that the Sierra Club’s U.S. cousin has already taken that step, said the organization’s board is responding to grassroots members exasperated by the lack of government action on climate change.
